During the spring and summer of last year, volunteers have picked up rubbish along the Swedish coast. Some of the hard plastic that has been picked up has since been used to build the optimistic by experts at Chalmers and SSPA. The boat is now being shown for the first time at the Boat Show in Gothenburg, and was baptized during solemn forms during the fair.

The unique dinghy building takes place within the project "Optimist för havet", which is run by the organizations "Håll Sverige Rent", the Swedish Sea Rescue Society and the Swedish Sailing Association with financing of the Swedish Postcode Lottery.

The purpose of the project is to show how much debris gets into the sea and thus contribute to reducing the feed - both by showing off the dinghies themselves and with a fresh training material about the problem of plastic debris in the seas.
